Hey, Kyle Moxam is a friend of mine I lost touch with. If you get this and can get it to him tell him Cruiser's email is mattygib@myway.com. Thank you.
Geek-Girl extrordinaire, Leigh was the first to come to our rescue with web hosting, and has been a big booster, getting the word out to Torontos propellerheads, and continues to infect the place with enthusiasm and good ideas.
of OpenTrend Solutions was our first network architect and in-house systems administrator. Using debian and simple-but-solid techniques, he got us airbourne and crafted the foundation we build on today.
Our very own Wizard of WiFi !
Thanks for the enthusiasm, the energy, the sage advice, the firmware and the fabulous hardware !
May signal strength stay strong and your toys never falter !
You may not know it, but A.G.H. (of Afilias) is a key player in the deepest workings of our precious internet. If you're a tallented PostgreSQL db admin, who works well with others and under pressure, he may have a job for you !
Andrew's quiet kindness and generosity spill over to those around him, as he is known to trade in a good nights sleep in order to help friends out of a jam.
He is also a supporter of linuxcaffe, in a big way, donating key hardware, drilling it in to us to Keep-It-Simple-Stoopid, and by consuming a goodly number of pita-zas and cappuccinos.
We'll be taking turns carrying this champion around on our shoulders, but please, go easy on the ACL !
for making our inagural outdoor screening and wonderful thing !
Andreis choice of film, projector, screen and sound system, combined with Toscas surreal soundtrack kicked guerilla screening ASS ! (.. er.. can I say that on the internet ?)
It was a fantastic precedent to what will become a neighbourhood tradition;
Movie Nights in Bickford Park !
the (other) delightful and talented Ms Cunningham has furnished us with the absolute cutest CD-rom player ever made.
no, it's not a Hello Kitty special. it's an external Panasonic scsi CD-rom reader that can act as a stand alone CD player. Now my laptop can take the day off from music player duties.
from her quiet first offerings a year ago (usenet chocolate chip cookies) and our first real CD player, to her current position as linuxcaffe System Administrator, Seneca has proven to be the Florence Nightingale of computing. Not only has she mastered our motley network of dubious legacy hardware, she has done with dedication, attention to detail and vision. She keeps the ship on an even keel with an even hand and a flair for the mundane (adherance to standards, path-of-least-surprise, just-works, resistance to flakey-unproven technologies, pragmatic hardware choices) and a willingness to share her remarkable computing skills with anyone who needs it, she has elevated this place from a jumble of interesting open source possibilities, to a model of how an enterprise could thrive in an all-open-source environment. For most customers, her work is totally invisable.
so for making linuxcaffes' network solid, secure, scalable and backed up, THANK YOU !
for putting in the longest (and latest) hours, for doing the impossible (netbooting with PCMCIA NIC, calibrating an undocumented touch-screen, making an obscure open source POS system a solid performer) for doing it with humour and patience and not taking too much of my crap.
I couldn't have done it without you !
For being the first to show up and get dirty helpin' out with the reno.
For enthusiasm and pragmatic suggestions.
For donations of key hardware.
For ongoing support in so many ways I can't even list 'em here.
For (you know what) and for thinking of us, while on a commercial shoot, and giving us a great pile of scraps. It was essential building material at the perfect time.
How could there be a thank-you section, without an entry acknowledging David and Lena? LinuxCaffe is an amazing thing, place, idea, event... whatever category it should be in. I am very grateful for this wonderfully unique, local, and specific manifestation of the global phenomenon of open-source software and wired community. You guys have been hugely helpful to me in the last few days. Thank you. This is what openness is all about.
For making linuxcaffe.ca work
Our website has had quite the rollercoaster ride, over the last year and a half, with the help of several talented folk. When development stalled, Jamon was kind enough to offer a hand. And when it was still stalled, a while later, he offered again. And the third time, he completely renovated the site and got everthing working just nice ! He's now our Webmaster and continues to make drupal jump through hoops. That and his willingness to take hardware apart (and ability to put it back together) and his generous spirit, in volunteering hours to help clientel, makes the website, and the caffe, better !
Terry started hanging out Friday evenings, many moons ago, and when things went a bit weird with the Linksys wireless firmware, he stepped up to the plate and applied his networking skills. Since then, he has become architect and builder of our core WiFi/ firewall/ routing structure. Now the WiFi is seeing respectable uptime, and when he's done, (still many hours of routing/ IPtable jiggling to go) we'll have enhanced security/ access and bandwidth. Thanks T !
Where there's a Wil, there's a way ! The artist known as dubphonics, is our master of style. If you like the way the site looks, thank him. If not, it was all my idea ! ;-)
Wil spent quite a while, and demonstrated considerable patience and understanding, in crafting our .css stylesheets, and creating graphics. Just recently, he answered a call to fix some remaining niggles, and look what we have ! ShaZAM ! Less hideous when viewed in Internet Explorer, good breadcrumbs and fab new nav stuff. Thanks with every click !
