techlog

This page is to be used for a log of tech "issues", as they come up. It is different from the "changeblog" in that a) it it for internal use ONLY (staff, sysadmin, webmin) and b) we should make note of any and all problems/ concerns here. Use the "changeblog" to publish larger changes, use the "techlog" to make note of daily weirdness.

yesterday, upstream connection was worse than ever. When I contacted WN, they gave me the new POP co-ordinates and things improved significantly. Mongoose load-ballancing now needs to be tweaked.

DSLreports.com reported d/l speeds of 72k and u/l of 142k.
For science, I set the WAN1 man u/l to 800k, and d/l to 3000k.. now testing..
d/l = 641
u/l = 134
.. hmm .. improved !

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-08-30 11:14:06 EST:
3865 / 41
Your download speed : 3865 kbps or 483.1 KB/sec.
That is 71% better than an average user on teksavvy.com

Your upload speed : 41 kbps or 5.1 KB/sec.
That is 92.3% worse than an average user on teksavvy.com

this morning Seneca observed outages. On reviewing mongoose logs, it was seen that the POP connection was lost over a dozen times, within a two hour period. I have sent word to WN, and am awaiting a reply.

Steve and Damien came in for a visit, and to check things out. We swapped a DSL filter and (of course) everything behaved nicely while they were here.

last night, Seneca set up a dd of Karinas disk (to hawk) and this morning hawk won't boot (won't get past "Loading OS")

recieved email notification from moonbase that we have hit the 80% mark.
I replied that the bulk of the traffic was googlebots and we would be restricting that traffic. As well, there are only two days left in the month, and that I thought (sans bots) our package will hold for a bit

Wrestled snakes, for a while, in the basement.
Tamed a few, hope I didn't screw anything up.
